THE MINERALS COUNCIL OF SA

11 June 2018 By PDSNET

Previously known as the Chamber of Mines, this organisation represents employers in the mining industry in South Africa. Its objective is to support and promote mining in this country. It was started more than 130 years ago as the Chamber of Mines. It claims to represent more than 90% of the South African mining industry, to employ about 470 000 people and to contribute more than R16bn in taxes to the fiscus. The MCSA is involved in negotiating the third mining charter with the government and other stakeholders like the mining communities and the unions. Obviously, if this charter is too onerous it will make South Africa an unfriendly destination for international investment from the leading mining houses.
