A Zulu word which has found its way into the socio-economic jargon of the South African economy - and even into ideas on corporate governance. The word means "humanity" and has come to symbolise community and caring about the environment and employees. It is an ubu- class derivation from the Zulu word "umuntu" meaning a man. Ubu- class nowns are names of emotions or feelings such as "ubuhlungu" - meaning painful.
