UBUNTU

1 June 2016 By PDSNET

A Zulu word which has found its way into the socio-economic jargon of the South African economy - and even into ideas on corporate governance. The word means "humanity" and has come to symbolise community and caring about the environment and employees. It is an ubu- class derivation from the Zulu word "umuntu" meaning a man. Ubu- class nowns are names of emotions or feelings such as "ubuhlungu" - meaning painful. The ubuntu philosophy was mostly practised by President Mandela and espouses the idea that we grow if others around us grow. After Mandela left office the ANC government has been anything but caring of the citizens of South Africa.
