South Africa's central securities depository. The name "STRATE" is an abbreviation of "Share TRAnsactions Totally Electronic". All the trades done on the JSE are settled by STRATE - in other words, the seller is paid and the buyer receives his shares. STRATE also keeps a record of the issued shares of listed companies - the final share register. STRATE also handles transactions for the warrants market and the bond market.
