PRIME RATE
25 May 2016 By PDSNETThe rate of interest charged by a commercial bank to its very best (i.e. lowest risk) clients. The prime overdraft rate is usually about 3,5% higher than the repo rate, which is the rate which the central bank charges the commercial banks. When the central bank changes the repo rate then the commercial banks follow quickly by adjusting their prime overdraft rate.
