Altering data to some extent to be more accurately analysed; smoothing, reducing unwanted data, removing trends. Processing data is mathematically transforming the data from one form into another with the goal of amplifying the pertinent information for traders. An example of preprocessing is using a moving average to smooth the data on a chart to identify the underlying trend.
